The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon begin in Poipu, the world-class resort community at the sunny southern end of the island and run the first 11 miles together. The courses follow the contour of the scenic coastline, offering magnificent views of the island’s picturesque beaches, rugged volcanic peaks, and green tropical rain forests. As dawn breaks, runners will experience lush green vistas as they approach the shade of the century old Tunnel of Trees. The course then winds through misty Omao where the half marathon enters Kukui’ula Resort offering spectacular ocean views for the last few miles. The full marathon heads out to Lawai before climbing to reveal stunning ocean views at the top of Kalaheo. The remaining miles are a gradual descent until runners receive a rousing island welcome upon their return to Poipu Beach. The courses are USATF and AIMS certified.

Dean Karnazes, author of 50 marathons in 50 days, is coming back for 2010 as the race host, with Bart Yasso, the Chief Running Editor for Runner’s World will be our official running ambassador.  Both will be very involved in all of our events during race week.

Finisher’s certificates will be available through our official race photographer on-line, a few days after the completion of the event. Certificates will be of high quality and complimentary for all. All finisher’s will receive a beautiful commemorative medallion as they cross the finish line.

A high quality dri tech finisher’s shirt will be provided for both the full and half marathon. T-shirt designs will be very colorful and recognize all as a participant in the 2010 event.

A great ocean front finisher’s party with local entertainment and separate awards ceremonies will be held as the races conclude. The festivities will begin at approximately 9:30am and will conclude at 1:00pm. All festivities will be held near the finish line on the grounds of the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort. All finisher’s and volunteers are welcome at the party.

The great thing is, both the full and half marathon courses are walker friendly however; all participants must pass mile 6.5 in one hour and 45 minutes, (16 minute pace) so we can open Maluhia Rd to motor vehicle traffic.  The full marathon course is limited to 8.0 hours.
